The 13th-annual Fall Jazz Series at the Taft Museum of Art returns with a line-up of local musicians performing under the tent on the terrace. In honor of the Museum’s 80th anniversary, this year’s series looks to the 1930s for inspiration.

Erwin Stuckey and Omega 3
Director of the jazz and percussion programs at the School for Creative and Performing Arts, pianist Erwin Stuckey has performed extensively in the US and South America with musicians including John Blake Jr., Mary Wilson, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones among many others. He is joined by Isaiah Cook on drums and Hank Stephens on guitar, percussion, and vocals.

Royal Palm Orchestra
In the 1930s and ‘40s, swing bands dominated every phase of the popular music business from records to ballroom appearances, club work, and live shows at movie theaters. Trombonist Bill Gemmer’s Royal Palm Orchestra, an elite group of the region’s premier musicians, will perform a selection of songs from the swing era and feature the beautiful voice of Lynne Scott.

Samba Jazz Syndicate
Travel to Brazil for a program of samba, bossa-nova, choro, baião, and frevo style jazz, including works by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Edu Lobo, João Donato, Hermeto Pascoal, and others. The band includes pianist Phil DeGreg, trumpeter Kim Pensyl, vibraphonist Rusty Burge, bassist Aaron Jacobs, and drummer John Taylor.
