At Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, we take our role as steward of the Park very seriously. We have a responsibility to the Park, its users and supporters, and the citizens of Memphis and Shelby County to ensure the Park's recreational and environmental resources are not harmed. We will not support a road design that negatively impacts the environment, recreation experience or pedestrian and vehicular connectivity in and around Shelby Farms Park.
The alignment of Kirby Whitten Parkway was set before Shelby Farms Park Conservancy was formed and prior to the signing of our management agreement with Shelby County. We remain optimistic that, if designed properly, Kirby Whitten Parkway can complement Shelby Farms Park's vision to be one of the greatest urban parks of the twenty-first century.
