Dublin Arts Council debuts international/local photography exhibition Sept. 27

Shifting Perspectives: In the Community explores lives of
central Ohio individuals with Down syndrome

DUBLIN, Ohio— (Aug. 29, 2012) Through the lenses of four Ohio and one international photographer, Shifting Perspectives: In the Community will be a celebration of acceptance, capturing the joy and wonder of what it is like to be human and living with Down syndrome. The exhibition will be on view at Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, Sept. 27 through Nov. 2.

In close collaboration with Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio, Dublin Arts Council has paired photographers with 13 local members of the Down syndrome community, creating images that challenge conventional attitudes and perceptions of identity and individuality. Through the medium of photography, this exhibition will focus on the everyday life experiences of individuals living with Down syndrome, providing a sensitive exploration of diversity in all of its permutations.

Shifting Perspectives’ curator/photographer Richard Bailey will travel to Dublin Arts Council for the exhibition, pairing some of his recent images from the United Kingdom with those from central Ohio.

The exhibition opens with a reception Thursday, Sept. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m., and an artists’ talk at 6:30 p.m. A pre-opening reception and wine tasting fundraiser will also be hosted in conjunction with the exhibition, Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Dublin Arts Council. Tickets, which are available via http://www.dublinarts.org/events/winetasting/tabid/134/categoryid/8/default.aspx, are $75 per person.

The exhibition is supported by Cardinal Health, The Dublin Foundation, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Ohio Arts Council, a Franklin County Neighborhood Arts Grant from Greater Columbus Arts Council, CVS Caremark, the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Dublin. Beverages and catering for the wine tasting and reception events are graciously provided by Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits and Bleu & Fig.

Exhibition hours: Tuesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through October, National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and closes Nov. 2, 2012.
