Artspace.com, the leading online marketplace for contemporary art, is hosting a competition on Tumblr to find “The Next Artspace Artist”. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize and the opportunity to create an Artspace Edition to be sold alongside work by famed contemporary artists including Jenny Holzer, Nick Cave, Anh Duong, David Salle, Robert Rauschenberg, and more. Artspace will accept artist submissions beginning this week through Friday, September 21, via the dedicated competition page powered by Tumblr: http://nextartspaceartist.tumblr.com/. Over the course of the four week competition, semi-finalists will be chosen by Tumblr popularity (achieved by reblogs and other social media/email share options that result in “votes” or “likes” of artists’ specific posts). Three semi-finalists will be chosen at the end of each week. At the conclusion of the submission rounds, the contest will move to Artspace.com where visitors to the site will vote on all 12 semifinalists from October 1-5. Three finalists will then be judged by a jury made up of: Dave Harper, curator of the BAMart program at the Brooklyn Academy of Music; Augusto Arbizo, director of Eleven Rivington gallery; Hrag Vartanian, editor of Hyperallergic.com; Andrew M. Goldstein, editor-in-chief at Artspace.com; Chris Vroom, co-founder, chairman and EVP of Artists and Institutions at Artspace.com and founder of Artadia: The Fund for Art and Dialogue; and Catherine Levene, co-founder and CEO of Artspace.com.
The Grand Prize Winner of the competition will be announced on Friday, October 12th and will receive a $1,000 cash prize and the chance to create an Artspace Edition that will be promoted through all of Artspace.com’s member channels.
This is an exciting opportunity for up-and-coming artists to break through the noise and show their creative talents to a targeted audience of art lovers and collectors through Artspace.com. Contenders will not only expose themselves to the collector community, but will be able to broadcast their talents through Artspace’s online channels – touching thousands of art enthusiasts all over the nation.
