artists
The exhibition showcases the outcome of the dialogues in the various media. The project is conceived to illustrate ways of integrating art and
science. We perceive this exhibition as merely a first step in an
ongoing process of dialogue and cooperation. Physicists, mathematicians and
other scientists from UKZN partnered with a variety of artists, each
with their own strengths and interests, ranging from the written word
to ceramics, painting, drawing and sculpture.

“evolving movement“ by susan knight
This exhibition is a study of the wonderful movement in our
universe. Knight is inspired by birds flying, humans dancing, horses running,
wind blowing through the leaves of trees, the sun rising in the sky every
morning and disappearing every night. As an artist she thoroughly enjoys
documenting life in motion in our evolving paradise.
Biography
Knight studied Graphic Design and Painting in Zimbabwe, and
studied Animation and Painting in South Africa. She has been accepted in to 3
group exhibitions, one in each Zimbabwe, South Africa and London. This is her
first solo exhibition.
Runs through Saturday, 22 September until 2p.m.

“Round and Round” is a look at the work of young print makers rediscovering traditional techniques - old methods explored by new minds.
The title comes from the movement of the press - the process of printmaking. The idea of a circle as a gathering space is an important one in printmaking, as artists work together in one studio, and work in dialogue - learning from and passing on different possibilities to one another, as well as helping each other with the more technical aspects of printmaking such as preparing paper and presses. The way in which a group of artists work together, even in producing very different work, is not a simple one- or two-way exchange but a complex reciprocal process. Printmaking can be time intensive, which allows it to be a reflective process. This process of trial and error, trying and reworking different techniques and concepts and then reflecting on the results, is also a circular one - once you have tried out one way of making an image, you can take this knowledge and start again.
