Clifton Center Presents Sunday Matinee Concert by Eilen Jewell

Louisville, Kentucky (August 28, 2012) - The Clifton Center, located at 2117 Payne Street, will host a concert by singer-songwriter Eilen Jewell on Sunday, September 16th at 6:00pm. This show will mark the first event in the new Sunday Matinee Concert Series, part of the MINI of Louisville LIVE at the Clifton Center Season. The event will be held in the Clifton Center's spacious Reception Hall and feature cabaret-style seating, a cash bar and heavy appetizers. Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors, and can be purchased at cliftoncenter.org or at Carmichael's Bookstore, 2720 Frankfort Avenue. Friends of the Clifton Center receive a 10% discount on all ticket purchases.

Eilen (ee-lin) Jewell began her music career singing on the streets of Santa Fe and Venice Beach, and since her official 2005 debut with Boundary County, Jewell has surveyed a wide range of traditional musical styles. From the folk and jug band leanings of her early recordings, to the country gospel of her work with The Sacred Shakers, right up to 2009's Sea of Tears, which bristled with the electricity of '60s UK garage rock and Chicago blues. She also released a tribute album to Loretta Lynn, Butcher Holler: A Tribute To Loretta Lynn,in 2010. Her most recent recording, Queen of the Minor Key draws on everything from classic country (the fiddle-driven "Reckless") to early R&B (the shuffling "Hooked") with an emphasis on sounds from the seamier side of the tracks. With dirty sax riffs and low-slung guitars, the instrumentals that bookend the album - "Radio  City" and "Kalimotxo" - evoke the bump-and-grind exotica of vintage Southern California suburban saloons. Yet on the flipside, Jewell  imbues slow, jazzy numbers like "I Remember  You" and "Only One" with torch and tenacity that linger long past last call.

Additional support for MINI of Louisville LIVE at the Clifton Center is provided by the Brown-Forman Corporation, DD Williamson Co., Cylicron Engineered Cylinders, the Kentucky Arts Council, LEO Weekly, WFPK, Heine Brothers Coffee, The Brown Hotel, Wild and Woolly Video, and Joe Hayden Realtors.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, provides operating support to the Clifton Center with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
