Inspired by translucent shapes that seem to come alive by light, fine art photographer Celia Pearson will be showcasing her collection Glass Transformed here at the Biggs Museum. The opening reception is FREE and open to the public. We welcome you to join us from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to view Pearson's captivating work.

Biggs Shot 2012 is almost here!
The Biggs Museum is currently seeking photographers for the 2012 Biggs Shot competition which will open this November. ALL levels of skill and enthusiasm are encouraged to participate! All entries must be received or postmarked by September 15, 2012. Completed entries must include entry form. Please email jkemske@biggsmuseum.org for application or to apply online.

First Friday: Glass Transformed Exhibition Opening

Glass Transformed is the first museum presentation of the photographic work of Celia Pearson within the State of Delaware. Based in Annapolis, Pearson travels the world to photograph unique sea glass collections. Spanning from still life to abstract studies of light and translucent glass, and presented in forms as varied as framed prints to fiber installations, Pearson's work has been published and exhibited widely.
Digital Photography Workshop with William Bretzger, Delaware Division of the Arts, Established Professional, Visual Arts: Photography
Saturday, September 8 and Saturday, September 15
10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

$75 per person
This two-day workshop will empower you to take control of your camera's features and advance your skills. Professional Photographer, William Bretzger will provide participants with the knowledge essential to explore all capabilities of the digital SLR. Participants will also learn how to incorporate these tools with different lenses and will explore techniques of composition and lighting. By the workshop's end participants will have acquired an understanding of their camera and a collection of images that reflect their new expertise. Participants are required to bring a digital SLR camera and a flash card or thumb drive.
Jewelry Making Workshop with Jessica Stephens, Delaware Division of the Arts, Emerging Professional, Visual Arts: Crafts
Tuesday, September 18 and Thursday, September 20
5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
$75 per person
This two-day workshop, conducted by Jessica Stephens will focus on basic jewelry making skills. Each student will have the opportunity to fabricate a unique sterling silver pendent using introductory techniques such as sawing, piercing, texturing, doming and soldering. No experience necessary.

Sugarloaf Craft Festivals Accepting Applications for Spring 2013 Sugarloaf Craft Festivals is seeking artists for its juried art festivals: January 25-27 in Chantilly, VA; March 8-10 in Somerset, NJ; March 15-17 in Oaks, PA; April 12-14 in Gaithersburg, MD; April 26-28 in Timonium, MD. Work must be original in design. Artist must be present all three days at show to present and discuss their work in person. Last year, artists sold more than 14.4 million in fine arts and contemporary crafts to more than 164,000 enthusiastic visitors at Sugarloaf shows. Applications will be accepted until shows are filled.
