CAUSERIE Aristophanes Thursday 13 September 2012, 12 – 18pm
As part of his ongoing project The Humans, visual artist Alexandre Singh explores the rich satirical legacy of Aristophanes, ‘the Prince of Comedy’. The fourth in the series of Causeries marks Aristophanes as a source of inspiration to the artist and brings together several experts to explore a wide range of subjects – from the chorus, costumes and staging to the social and political context of ancient Greece, amidst of which the plays were written. Participants include: Edith Hall, James Robson, Alexa Piqueux, Adriaan Rademaker The monthly Causeries are conceived by Alexandre Singh and Defne Ayas, and are organized in consultation with critic and writer Donatien Grau. EVENT Rotterdam Zuid - A Bike Tour with Erik van Lieshout Sunday 16 September, 11 am, 1 and 3 pm
Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art and Rotterdam ArchiGuides present a guided bike tour that offers a new look into the city of Rotterdam. Taking inspiration from Witte de With Publishers’Rotterdam series and the forthcoming fifth volume with Rotterdam-based artist Erik van Lieshout (to be released in 2013), this tour provides an insight into the sites of inspiration and research of the artist. The bike tour guided by Erik van Lieshout takes participants to the South of Rotterdam and highlights the city’s art, architecture and cultural sites from an unexpected perspective.
