Ottawa’s very first Nuit Blanche will take place on September 22nd, 2012. An all-night event celebrating art and culture, it is no surprise that Festival X, Ottawa’s biannual festival celebrating photography, will be taking part in exciting events of the evening.
Festival X’s participation in Nuit Blanche will take form in an exciting event at Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts, which is also functioning as X Central for the entirety of Festival X. Stills in Motion is an exploration into the interaction between the still and the moving image, and their relationships with sound.
The artists in Stills in Motion will explore the relationships that exist between the moving and the still image. These 9 local and national artists will present their interpretations on both the theme of Stills in Motion and the broader theme of Nuit Blanche, Life is Beautiful. Omar Rivero and Jennifer Stewart's Carousel 006, uses an analog projector to bring together digital collage and experimental music. Alli Asudeh's Pieces of You shares her personal love letters from a breakup. Other participating artists include Theo Palmus, Laurence Butet–Roch, Pierre–Luc Clément, Andrew Carson, David Montgomery and Olivia Johnston. Working in a range of media, this distinct group of artists will have work projected on a number of screens placed throughout Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts. The use of audio will also play a role in this group of works, with each artist encouraged to use a sound component in their presentation.

La première Nuit Blanche d’Ottawa aura lieu le 22 septembre 2012. Il s’agit d’un événement qui se déroulera toute la nuit pour célébrer l’art et la culture. Il n’est donc pas surprenant que le Festival X, le festival bisannuel d’Ottawa célébrant la photographie, participe à d’enivrants événements au cours de cette soirée.
La participation du Festival X à la Nuit Blanche consistera en un exaltant événement qui se déroulera au Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts, le quartier général du Festival X. Stills in Motion est une exploration de l’interaction entre l’image fixe et l’image en mouvement ainsi que leur relation avec les sons.
Les artistes de Stills in Motion exploreront les relations entre l’image fixe et l’image en mouvement. Ces neuf artistes locaux et nationaux présenteront leurs interprétations du thème « l’image en mouvement »et du thème plus vaste « la nuit blanche, la vie est belle ». Le Carousel 006 de Omar Rivero et Jennifer Stewart utilise un projecteur analogique afin de rassembler un collage numérique et de la musique expérimentale. L’œuvre d’Alli Asudeh présente des lettres de sa rupture. Parmi les autres artistes participants, l’on compte notamment Theo Palmus, Laurence Butet–Roch, Pierre-Luc Clément, Andrew Carson, David Montgomery et Olivia Johnston. Oeuvrant dans un grand éventail de médium, les œuvres de ce groupe d’artistes distincts seront projetées sur des écrans du Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts. Les sons joueront également un rôle important dans cet ensemble d’œuvres car on encourage tous les artistes à en utiliser.
