INVITATION
RESIDENCIES OPEN STUDIO WEEKEND
Friday 28 September, 6 - 9pm & Saturday 29 September, 12 - 6pm
 
Gasworks' current residency artists Francisca Benítez (Chile), Sunoj D. (India) and Cécile B. Evans (USA/Belgium) open their studios to the public, giving visitors a unique opportunity to meet them, explore their work and learn about the residency programme at Gasworks.

The open studio weekend includes a studio tour, talks and screenings, and a walking tour of London's sites of protest led by Francisca Benítez on Sunday 30 September. Our current exhibition by Lana Lin will also be on show throughout the weekend.

Events on Friday evening coincide with SLAM Last Fridays.

OPEN CALL FOR APPLICATION REJECTION LETTERS 
DEADLINE: TUESDAY 25 SEPTEMBER

For her screening during the open studio weekend, Frieze Projects 2012 Emdash award winner Cécile B. Evans is looking for screenshots of letters of refusal or rejection that artists or curators have received in response to artistic applications.
 
These could include letters from people who have declined to collaborate or assist, manufacturers who have turned down requests for producing something or institutions that have rejected an exhibition.

CONTRIBUTE A PLANT POT IN THE NAME OF ART!
 
Sunoj D. returns to the UK in February 2013 to present the installation Remains of the Soil from the Land where the Sun never sets at the Natural History Museum (NHM), London. 
 
The artist has requested that visitors bring along all kinds of plant pots to his talk or at any point over the open studio weekend, which will form part of the installation at the NHM.

Residencies Programmer Rowan Geddis leads an informal tour of the residency artists' studios, introducing the projects developed during the artists' time at Gasworks.

TALK & IN-CONVERSATION: THROUGH THE LAND
SATURDAY 28 SEPTEMBER, 2pm

Sunoj D. elaborates on the research he has carried out for his commission at the Natural History Museum (NHM), London, which has specifically looked at the experiences and values of farmers within modern agricultural production.
 
The artist is joined by farmers Nigel Carey from Mill Farm, Norfolk and Bharath Dev Kendanamane from Sakleshpur, India. After their individual presentations, Sunoj D. discusses the issues that have arisen during his research with independent curator and writer Alice Carey.

A WALK: THROUGH SITES OF DISSENT
SUNDAY 30 SEPTEMBER, 12pm
Meet at Gasworks
 
Join residency artist Francisca Benítez on a walk through London, exploring the many sites of protest and conflict that have taken place throughout the city's history. The walk is both an opportunity for the artist to discover the city and for Londoners to see it in a new light.
 
As the walk develops, informal exchanges will take place, stories will unfold, information will be revealed, details will be discovered and situations will be discussed.
