JACK STRAW PRODUCTIONS AND WASHINGTON COMPOSERS FORUM PRESENT

THE COMPOSER SPOTLIGHT SERIES

John Teske

JOHN TESKE

Fundamentals of My Authentic Musical Language

Wednesday, October 10, 7:30pm

Jack Straw Productions

4261 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle

FREE

Seattle composer and Jack Straw resident artist John Teske will speak about his recent "five pieces for double bass" and their role in his development of an authentic compositional voice. Incorporating pieces of the past, present, and sketches of new works, John will highlight how the "five pieces" solidified the core ideas that have become part of his musical language.

John Teske is a composer, double bassist and improviser. John composes for acoustic instruments and expands the possibilities of sound through extended techniques and electroacoustic means. He received his BM in Music Composition from the University of Washington and studied with Joël-François Durand, Juan Pampin, and Josh Parmenter.

John's recent work has been exploring the nature of human consciousness, awareness, and sensation. As our culture becomes more interconnected, the experience of time seems to be accelerating and the average attention span is diminishing. By slowing the experience of time through music, he hopes to bring to attention greater subtleties of sound.

About Composer Spotlight

Jack Straw Productions and Washington Composers Forum present Composer Spotlight, a series of talks and performances by composers, musicians, and scholars of new and innovative music on the second Wednesday of every month. Visit our Composer Spotlight page for more information.

About Jack Straw Productions

Jack Straw Productions is a non-profit multidisciplinary arts organization dedicated to the creation, production and presentation of all forms of audio art. Jack Straw Productions' history began in 1962, when a group of artists, educators, and journalists formed the Jack Straw Foundation, which founded KRAB-FM, one of the first community radio stations in the United States. Jack Straw continues to assist artists, educational institutions, and community organizations that are interested in working creatively with sound through our audio production services and recording studios, artist residency programs, educational programs, and community partnerships. Jack Straw Productions has called Seattle's University District home since 1989.
