Event Line Up Announced for Family Arts Festival
Sat, October 13 10am-4pm

(Bartlesville, Okla.) Price Tower Arts Center invites everyone to the 10th Annual Family Arts Festival on Saturday, October 13, 2012.  The festival will be held on the grounds of the Price Tower located at 5th and Dewey in downtown Bartlesville.  The emcee for this year’s event will be local broadcast professional Charlie Taraboletti.

Those attending the free Family Arts Festival will get to enjoy an impressive line-up of live entertainment this year.  The first free concert begins at 10:15 a.m. and will feature Green Country Music Together.  Many home-bred talent such as Children’s Musical theater, Art of Motion, Bartlesville High School Band, Mid-America Karate and more take the stage the remainder of the day. At 3:00 p.m., George Miksch Sutton Avian Research Center is showcasing a birding demonstration.

“The Family Arts Festival is our way of celebrating together with family and friends the proud existence of Oklahoma’s greatest iconic building,” said Tim Boruff, executive director.  “To showcase local talent during this day is a great way to celebrate our finest in art, music and cultural significance.”

Food and drink will also be available for purchase throughout the day such as tamales, popcorn, pizza and soda.  This year’s food vendors include Casa Hispana, Knights of Columbus, David Valdez (Ice Cream truck) and BHS booster club.

The Family Arts Festival always includes a youth art show featuring works from elementary and high school students throughout the region.  New this year, festival coordinators have added a Sidewalk Chalk Contest with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Among the activities will be a scavenger hunt, paper bag hats, copper pictures, sand art, an architecture ring toss and a Lincoln Log construction site; designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s son, John, in 1916.

Families can also enjoy face painting, Boo Boo the Clown, an obstacle course and train.  There will be free admission to the gallery and current exhibition Marco Sassone: Architecture and Nature during the day-long event

“This festival is a wonderful opportunity for families to spend time together and learn more about art, architecture and design in an historic setting,” said Price Tower Arts Center curator Scott Perkins.

The works of many Bartlesville-area artists will be available for purchase during the festival under the tents of the art bazaar.  Their works include paintings, jewelry, sculptures and pottery.

Sponsors for the 2012 Family Arts Festival include ConocoPhillips, Doenges Family of Autos, Debbie and Mark Haskell, More Branding, National Endowment for the Arts, Oklahoma Arts Council, Schwegman Insurance and Financial Services and 66 Federal Credit Union.

“The community of Bartlesville has been generous to Price Tower with its interest and support of our programs as well as recognizing the significance of a world heritage nomination,” said Boruff.

Rogers State University Fine Art Department will be selling and creating artwork during the festival. Several of the RSU art demonstrations will consist of painting, drawings, sculpture and pottery. Also, the RSU Hillcat will be here for picture with the family!

Another wonderful addition to this year’s event is downtown’s featured Art Walk. Spread throughout Bartlesville’s historical downtown area, various buildings will feature local and regional artists selling and displaying hand-created artwork. There will be a map and directions to each location at the Price Tower Arts Center information booth during the festival.
