Flock to OctoBIRDfest Saturday at the Woodson Art Museum
Wausau, Wisconsin: OctoBIRDfest features bird-themed activities for young children and families, Saturday, September 29, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., in the Woodson Art Museum sculpture garden. Balloon and caricature artists, entertainment by a strolling juggler, a pumpkin patch, art projects, games, and food abound. Bring your camera and make memories!
The 22nd annual outdoor family festival - featuring fun avian and fall themes -
complements the "Birds in Art" exhibition on view in the galleries, and admission is always free.
Back by popular demand, clowns twist balloons into animal shapes, and caricature artists draw whimsical, black-and-white portraits. Caricature artists Chris Rommel, Bernie Tennis, and Mike Kuznar draw individual portraits beneath a tent. Dizzy D. Clown and Mr. C. Story inflate and twist balloons into fanciful shapes to delight the young and young-at-heart.
Juggler and jokester Jason Huneke strolls throughout the family festival offering entertainment, 12:30-2 pm.
Little ones decorate pumpkins, create fabric ghosts, and decorate black paper crows among other art projects offered beneath a tent.
Children launch mini-pumpkins from a catapult to send them flying, toss beanbags, play bird croquet, and more. Visitors purchase tickets for 20-cent games in which everyone is a winner and can claim prizes.
Children also can choose a free pumpkin from a pumpkin patch courtesy of the Wausau Noon Optimists.
Refreshment options include the Museum's popcorn stand, Kwik Trip's hot beverages, and Wausau Community Theater's range of sandwiches, all available for purchase.
Participants may enter a drawing to win Noodles & Company Dinner for Four certificates, which can be retrieved from the Museum the week after OctoBIRDfest.
