ASIA AFTER DARK: ASIAN SOUNDSCAPE Friday, September 28, 7-11 pm Arthur M. Sackler Gallery and Enid A. Haupt Garden TICKETS
$25 advance | $30 at the door (credit cards or cash) $15 Silk Road Society members
Experience an Asian soundscape with live performances by acclaimed multimedia artist and musician Paul Miller, aka DJ Spooky, and instrumentalists Danielle Cho and Jennifer Kim, set against an immersive backdrop of silent Asian films. Join instrument-maker John Tewksbury and cross-cultural percussionist Steve Bloom to make collective music. You'll create and personalize a renewable-frame drum, then learn how to play basic rhythms from Asia and participate in the "choir," with your drum as your voice.
Just before the night breaks into an Asian electronica dance party, take exhibition tours led by Carol Huh, assistant curator of contemporary art, and Alex Nagel, associate curator of the ancient Near East. Have your face painted with Asian-inspired designs and make fun photobooth memories with our friends from onomonoMedia. Throughout the night, pay homage to the Asia After Dark tagline-"Art, Drink, and Be Happy"-by tasting specialty cocktails at the three pop-up bars by Ping Pong Dim Sum, who will supply the award-winning libations for the evening.
Must be 21 years old with valid photo ID to attend.
