Description:

Over the course of two afternoons, this graphic memoir workshop will introduce you to the art of preserving the significant moments in your life in a new and exciting way.

First, we will explore the work of graphic memoir authors like Art Spiegelman (Pulitzer-prize winning Maus) and Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis). This will lead to a practical introduction to this rich form of storytelling, which combines visual and writing techniques. You will then start developing your own unique story in own your personal style.

Don’t worry! You don’t need to have a background or special talent in art or in literature! Just come with your stories (funny or sad), your special memories, or your personal reflections on life.

Advance enrollment for this class is required.  Please visit this website for ticketing:  http://guestlistapp.com/events/124527 <http://guestlistapp.com/events/124527>

Biographical Sketch

Danièle Archambault is a linguist and a cartoonist. She grew up in Montréal, Québec. A tenured professor in the linguistics department at the University of Montreal until 1998, she now lives in Palo Alto.  Her series Stairway Stories is a collection of three full-color graphic novels: In the Montreal of my childhood, On the way to school, and The Age of Reason. The books feature two French-speaking children, Doudou and Danny, growing up in Montreal in the late 1950s. The stories, as well as the drawings, document with emotion and humor the culture and the French dialect spoken in Quebec. The two most recent books feature a glossary explaining the vocabulary and idiomatic expressions used in the stories. In her latest book, Québec-California, she narrates with humor her many adventures and misadventures with the California wildlife.  All her graphic novels are bilingual (French and English) flip-over books.
