Dublin Arts Council Launches Public Art

Mobile Applications

DUBLIN, Ohio (Sept. 25, 2012) Executive Director David S. Guion announced that Dublin Arts Council has launched two new mobile web applications today, one for the Dublin Art in Public Places program and another for RiverboxesTM, a popular letterboxing and geocaching inspired-project. The mobile-friendly tours, designed and developed by Columbus-based digital agency Madison & Fifth, are accessible directly through mobile web browsers and from Dublin Arts Council's main site, www.dublinarts.org.

Visitors on web-enabled phone and tablet devices can access artwork images, artist information and cell phone tour audio for the Dublin Art in Public Places collection. The Riverboxes application includes clues to the artworks’ whereabouts and a new Riverboxes Challenge where ink stamps are collected on a passport and brought to Dublin Arts Council to redeem for a Geocoin. A Geocoin is an individually numbered, trackable token that can be placed in a geocache or letterbox and followed throughout its travels via online posts.

To access these new mobile-friendly web applications, web-enabled phone and tablet users do not have to visit a separate online store or perform downloads.

The mobile applications’ development was supported by a City of Dublin Hotel/Motel Tax Grant and an invitational Arts Education in American Communities grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

For more information about any of Dublin Arts Council’s programs, exhibitions and events call (614) 889-7444 or visit www.dublinarts.org. Dublin Arts Council (DAC), is located at 7125 Riverside Dr. in Dublin, Ohio. Hours are Tues., 10am-7pm; Wed./Thurs./Fri., 10am–5pm; and Sat., 11am-2pm. DAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, supported in part by an annual endowment from the City of Dublin’s hotel/motel tax and the Ohio Arts Council, which helps fund Dublin Arts Council and its programs with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. DAC is further supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations, fundraising events, membership, classes, gallery and gift shop sales and in-kind contributions. DAC engages the community, cultivates creativity and fosters life-long learning through the arts.
