HAND-DYED BEAUTY FOR YOUR QUILTS! Saturday, September 29: 9:30-4:30 AN INTRODUCTION TO INDIGO Have you always admired quilters who use their own hand-dyed fabrics in their quilts? Ever wondered how difficult -- or easy -- this was? On Saturday, September 29, join Carol Anne Grotrian for a full-day workshop on shibori dyeing: An Introduction to Indigo. Deadline: October 1st BECOME PART OF MUSEUM HISTORY Design: Jacque Thompson, Mary Furber As a major fundraising project for our 25th anniversary, we’re creating a signature quilt embroidered with the names of our favorite people – our supporters! The finished quilt will be displayed in the museum and become part of the permanent collection. Our goal is to raise $25,000 to support museum education programs and the care of our permanent collection. For a $250 tax-deductible donation, you can have your name (or the name of your guild, friend or loved one) embroidered on a New England-inspired star, mountain, maple leaf or sailboat block. Curated by Anita Loscalzo and Laura Lane, the BACKSTITCH exhibition features a list of artists that reads like a Who's Who of leaders and innovators in the quilting world. Showcased are techniques including embellishment, fabric dyeing, fusing, photo transfer, thread painting and more. Through quilts from the museum's Permanent Collection, learn about the death of an English princess, the opening of sea trade with the Orient, the battlefield life of a Civil War soldier, the travels of a portrait painter among native peoples in the 1840s. Objects and illustrations from museums and private collections together with quilts from our Permanent Collection tell fascinating stories you’ll remember always. Two wonderful items are now up for raffle to support the programs and mission of the New England Quilt Museum. December 14, 2012 is the drawing date for a Janome Memory Craft 6600P sewing machine. Also included is a rolling tote, for a total value of $2,599. This fabulous machine was generously donated by Red Barn Sewing & Yarn Center [Merrimack, MA], longtime supporters of the museum. Tickets: $5. On May 2, 2013, we'll be drawing the name of the lucky winner of a beautiful Aunt Grace Circle of Friends quilt. This 80"x80" quilt, designed by Judie Rothermel and Vicki Bellino, was machine pieced, hand appliqued and quilted by Shirley Bangma from a pattern and fabric donated by Helane Huntington [both of Uxbridge, MA].
