Rattlesnakes, spiders and even puppies and kittens get in on the act. Caldwell's work draws influence from disparate sources; from Abstract Expressionism to western illustration, Pop Art to old hunting photos. He has a loyal collector base and has been exhibiting his paintings of cowboys, shipwrecks, hunting and fishing trips, and wild animal permutations for over fifteen years.   KRISTEN PETERSON   Didnt we almost have it all... Stories and Artifacts from the Life and Times at the Shady Palms   Who Knew?  Kristen Peterson has been making art in secret.  She is a master at using those crafty pipe-cleaners we all remember using as children. Coupled with stories she has been writing about a fictitious place she calls the Shady Palms, she illustrates sentences with her sculptural 'artifacts'.  Let there be no doubt, Ms. Peterson is 100% able to transcend the shaky ground between craft and fine art. Come see for yourself- Opening October 4, 6-8pm     Show runs through  October 25, 2012         the corner gallery a.k.a. the little art store   THE VEGAS VERNACULAR PROJECT   This all volunteer project has been created to document the hand-painted and lesser-known neon and illuminated signage of Las Vegas. These signs give our town a unique graphical character, often hidden in plain sight, they play a part in shaping our emotional relationship and history of downtown Las Vegas.   Once upon a time, these signs were intended as lures for business. Some are funny, loud, garish, cheesy, odd, and in some cases not conventionally attractive.  We recognize them now as unique, bold, artifacts worthy of saving. Perhaps even a chapter in the 'Art History' of Las Vegas. Like the city itself, the signs are a mass of contradictions bound together by an idea.   With the bright future of downtown, these signs are at risk of being forgotton. This archive makes its first chapter debut this weekend at Trifecta Gallery and Amanda Harris Gallery.
