ALAIN DELORME

October 27 - to December 1, 2012

Following his three stays in residency in Shanghai, from 2010 to 2012, French photographer Alain Delorme presents a major retrospective of his work from October, 27th to December, 1st at the Magda Danysz Gallery. After numerous exhibitions this year, including his participation at the Vevey Images Festival in September 2012, this retrospective is an opportunity to see for the first time ever the complete Little Dolls series and the eighteen pieces of the Totems series done in Shanghai.

Belgian artist Fred Eerdekens is internationally renowned for his sculptures and installations where he combines language and sculpture into one. He exhibits for the first time in Shanghai from December 8, 2012 to January 26, 2013, at Gallery Magda Danysz, after many exhibitions in Europe and in the United States.

Qiu Minye, Wang Tong, Chen Xiaowei, Xu Zhe and Feng Fangyu (featured artist in Paris Photo) all form the emerging generation of young Chinese photographers. Today’s China is modern and dynamic and through the work of these photographers, contemporary China is explored. The desire to look at contemporary society as well as reflect on Chinese history and traditions is surveyed in each artists work while being guided each time by different perspectives. They question contemporary society as well as the history of their country.

Witnessing this dynamic and modern China today, the younger generation of Chinese photographers explore the contrasts between tradition and modernity in their country. Memory, patriotism, the influence of globalization and the exploration of marginality are emerging issues that reappear in their work. Feng Fangyu, is a part of a new generation of contemporary Chinese photographers. Feng Fangyu most recent series, Confused will be presented by Gallery Magda Danysz in Paris Photo from 15 to 18 November 2012).
