Printed Matter NYABF Fundraising Editions

On the occasion of the NY Art Book Fair, we’re pleased to launch three new fundraising editions by artists Shannon Ebner, Matt Connors, and Stefan Marx / Sun Foot. Support of Printed Matter through the purchase of these editions helps ensure that the Fair can continue to remain free to the public!

Shannon Ebner’s edition is comprised of 12 giclée prints, each containing a single word from the sentence "TODAY HAS NO MARGINS THE EVENT ARRIVES / FLUSH WITH ITS EDGES.” In line with Ebner’s sculptural work and ongoing interest in language on the page, each letter in the text has been constructed through the arrangement of cinder blocks. The series, entitled Today Is Today Is Today Is Today,

has been produced in a signed and numbered edition of 10, with half being sold a portfolio sets. Prints are also available individually, signed and numbered.

For his Fair edition, Matt Connors has created a series of 5 two-color serigraph prints. The variable image plays on an abstraction of the blue and red pattern from the oh-so-familiar plastic bags delivering flyers to stoops throughout New York City. Each print measures 13.25 x 10”, is produced in an edition of 20, and can be purchased individually or as a full set. The prints may also be special ordered with a corresponding color frame chosen by Connors, dramatically altering the effect of the duotone work.

We are also presenting a limited edition 7" picture disc vinyl featuring the song "Rain Song" by the San Francisco-based group Sun Foot, made up of Chris Johanson, Brian Mumford, Ron Burns. The artwork and album design has been contributed by Stefan Marx, whose many books and zines have been a regular highlight on the shelves of Printed Matter. Sun Foot will play at the Thursday preview event (tonight!) in the courtyard dome, free and open to the public.

Contemporary Artists' Book Conference Edition by Triin Tamm

Each year, the Contemporary Artists Book Conference releases an edition to help keep their two-day symposium free to the public. This year artist Triin Tamm offers Notes and Instructions On How to Use the Bookcatalogtest investigating the “Bücher-katalogtest” (bookcatalogtest), a personality test developed by swiss psychologist Moritz Tramer in the middle of the last century. In his original book, Tramer proposes to establish a library catalog consisting of 430 titles which base the foundation of his test. By re-appropriating this historical document, Triin Tamm follows a line that she started with “a stack of Books”, exploring a calvino-ish collection of excerpts through existing and invented books.

Additional Launches at the Printed Matter Booth

In addition to the full schedule of talks, performances & books launches going on this weekend, Printed Matter will also host some unofficial signings out of the PM booth in the PS1 Lobby.

Alec Soth, Saturday, 5PM

Alec Soth’s photobook Looking for Love, 1996, including his photo series of the same name, looks back to the time of the beginning, the time when everything is still open and exciting, when everything gently fall into place. It‘s the phase of the beginning, that forms the basis not only of a new love, but also of each new photographic project. It‘s a book about searching, about the curious and intuitive approach to people and their stories. About falling in love to a medium that opens insights to worlds that would otherwise stay hidden – intensive and haunting like an interminable night at the bar. Limited edition box set also available.

Rick Myers, Saturday, 6PM

Aperture Mirror marks the first in the series of publications from Edition Muta committed to Douglas Blazek’s life’s work, with cover art collages by the author and interior artwork by publisher Rick Myers. Achieving prominence in his first 25 years of writing (24 books and chapbooks, 1000 poems in over 400 journals), poet, editor and publisher Blazek would spend 25 years in the deep in the matrix of creation and self-transformation, re-writing, repeatedly, the originally published versions of his poetry. Available in paperback and signed, clothbound special editions with hand-inked covers by Blazek and Myers.

NURTUREart Books

We'll also be distributing free copies of a NURTUREart publication, created on the occasion of their exhibition "...Is This Free?." The book collects interviews, email exchanges and various contributions with/by Marco Antonini, Carrie Dashow, Pablo Helguera, Steve Lambert, Cesare Pietroiusti, Paul Ramirez Jonas, Megan Snowe, Rachel Steinberg, Elaine Tin Nyo, Brad Troemel, Amy Whitaker and Caroline Woolard. Stop by the booth in the PS1 lobby for more information!
