"What Cannot Be Cured Must Be Endured"

New York-born painter Suzanne Laura Kammin pursued her studies at Rhode Island School of Design, the San Francisco Art Institute, the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Kammin has exhibited extensively in the tri-state area, including solo shows in Newark, Boston, and Toronto. She currently lives in Newark and runs Left Bank Studio School. Her teaching career spans two decades, and she has taught at institutions such as the Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School, Caldwell College, the Montclair Museum, Pratt Institute, and Parsons The New School for Design.

Roberto Osti's vividly detailed drawings and paintings have appeared in publications and exhibitions all over the world, from a mural for Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge to the Oceanographic Museum of Monte Carlo, to the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna. His professional illustration portfolio includes clients such as National History Magazine, Scientific American Magazine , New York Times-Science Times, and Oxford University Press. Osti studied at Superior School for Anatomical/Surgical Drawing in Bologna, New York Academy of Art, the Art Students League, and the State Institute of Art in Bologna. He is Master Artist Lecturer in figure anatomy for University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

The Criminal Justice Gallery at Rutgers - Newark
The Paul Robeson Galleries at Rutgers University has recently opened a new exhibition space: The Criminal Justice Gallery, located on the Newark Campus. This gallery will display changing exhibitions looking at themes of criminal justice. We are looking for artists whose work addresses such issues as: the legal system, crime, justice, police, law enforcement, prisons, prisoners, correctional systems, incarceration, reentry into society, and so on. Preference will be given to artists based in New York City and New Jersey. Works must be two dimensional, presented framed and ready to hang. Exhibitions will be on display for an entire semester, i.e. September to January or January to July.
Please send the following proposal:
- Artist statement - how does your work relate to the theme?
- Artist resume (with your complete name, address, email, telephone number)
- A CD with images of work relating to your proposal. Images must be in JPEG format.
- A list of works with title, date, medium, dimensions
Proposals must be postmarked no later than 10/12/12

Our Mission
The Paul Robeson Galleries presents critically engaging exhibitions, public events and educational programs to Rutgers University and Greater Newark audiences. It is in the spirit of Paul Robeson himself that the gallery network is dedicated to an urban mission with an activist approach to educational and exhibitions programming. This commitment includes organizing exhibitions and public programs on local, regional, and international contemporary art and culture, as well as developing civic partnerships through community outreach programs. Our aim is to initiate cross-disciplinary and civic dialogues as ways of strengthening bonds between art, education, and democracy. Our exhibitions, programs, and events are always free and open to the public.
