 Events relating to Queens of the Undead

13 September - 24 November, Rivington Place



Kimathi Donkor's Queens of the Undead continues this month with a series of events that contextualise and explore the ideas in the work.

Find out more about Nanny of the Maroons, one of Kimathi Donkor's subjects, explore the visual representation of Black Femininity in the work and enjoy a tour of the exhibition led by Kimathi Donkor.

 Stuart Hall Library events



Join in with fellow zine fans for the launch of an exhibition of zines curated by Fliss Collier of the South West London and Surrey Zine Collective. The launch will be followed by a zine swap.

Also this month, we're delighted to announce that Roshini Kempadoo is Iniva's first Animateur for the Stuart Hall Library. Over the next six months she will help to expand the use of the Library as well as stimulating research for publishing and creating work.


 The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975

Join author, music producer and scholar, Pat Thomas as he talks about the Black Panther Party, pop culture and black consciousness poetry.

In this event, the author of 'Listen Whitey!' The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975 combines slide projection of people and events with the music of the Black Power Movement era.

In this series of four lectures Adrian Rifkin, Professor of Art Writing at Goldsmiths', takes up Jacques Ranciere's notion of the 'aesthetic regime of art' to explore possibilities of an aesthetic regime of writing on art. Join in one or all.

In New Opinions, two young artists lead us through Kimathi Donkor's artworks and talk about what the exhibition means to them.

Join a free and interactive drop-in family workshop led by visual artist Othello De'Souza-Hartley on a theme connected to Queens of the Undead.

 Social Fabric tours to India

23 September - 11 November, Mumbai



Social Fabric has opened in Mumbai at the Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum. The exhibition, which Iniva originally presented at Rivington Place early in 2012, explores colonial history, international trade and labour politics through textiles, and runs until 11 November, 2012.
