Exhibitions
Opens October 6
Pipilotti Rist: A la belle étoile
Internationally acclaimed video artist Pipilotti Rist is highly regarded for optically exuberant work that engages viewers' bodies and senses. Rist's installation transforms the Henry's East Gallery space by projecting moving images onto the floor and setting a confusion of perspectives into motion. As the camera zooms from microcosms, like individual bodies, to macrocosms, like a galaxy of stars, the artist creates a visually fluid and sonically hypnotic zone that aims to induce a sense of weightlessness in the viewer.
Pipilotti Rist: A la belle étoile is organized by the Henry in collaboration with the Seattle Art Museum as part of a city-wide celebration of French art and culture and the contributions of women artists. Presentation at the Henry is generously supported by 4Culture/King County Lodging Tax, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, the Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco, and swissnex san francisco.

En plein air
En plein air presents work culled from the Henry's permanent collection along with the work of the young French Algerian contemporary artist Neil Beloufa. The exhibition broadly addresses how the practice of en plein air richly influenced the early years of photography and the subsequent practice of the arts.
En plein air is curated by Luis Croquer, Deputy Director of Art and Education with assistance from Merith Bennett, Senior Curatorial Associate, and with support from Judy Sourakli, Curator of Collections. The exhibition is made possible with generous support from ArtsFund, the French American Cultural Society (FACS), and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.

The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl is the first museum exhibition to explore the culture of vinyl records within the history of contemporary art. Bringing together artists from around the world who have worked with records as their subject or medium, this groundbreaking exhibition examines the record’s transformative power from the 1960s to the present. Through sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, sound work, video and performance, The Record combines contemporary art with outsider art, audio with visual, and fine art with popular culture.
Curated by Trevor Schoonmaker, Patsy R. and Raymond D. Nasher Curator of Contemporary Art at the Nasher Museum. The Henry presentation of The Record is organized by Curator Sara Krajewski with generous support from ArtsFund, 4Culture/King County Lodging Tax, and the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs. Media sponsorship is provided by The Stranger.
