Dear Friends:
Art Works for Change has just launched our first online fundraiser to raise money to travel our four-person team â two organizers, an artist, and a blogger â to Senegal in December to join Sister Fa, the country's "Queen of Hip Hop" and tireless human rights activist, on her 5-city tour to promote positive health practices among women and girls. We need your help!
In Senegal, as in many countries, advances in children's health are impeded by a lack of awareness, limited resources, gender bias, and discrimination. Simply put: girls and boys don't learn about and adopt positive health practices, and understand why they matter.
Art Works for Change will be using our life-size adaptation of the 7,000-year-old African game and art project, AWARE/OWARE: Game for Female Empowerment, to engage the community and increase awareness of critical health issues among young people, inspiring the next generation of Senegalese youth to take action on malaria, HIV/AIDs, and reproductive health.
We're hoping to raise funds to join Sister Fa on the 5-city tour. As you know, plane tickets are expensive, so we're asking our community for help to get us there. Please consider playing a part in our AWARE/OWARE Senegal campaign. Any amount, little or large, will be greatly appreciated.
Please visit our fundraiser page to learn more and share this campaign with your friends.
There's lots of other news about Art Works for Change exhibitions â where they're appearing, where they're going, and how they're received â which I'll share with you later this month.
With much appreciation,
Randy Jayne Rosenberg
Executive Director and Chief Curator
