Werner Linster, Doodling The World + Susanne Ring: Freaks of Nature
In Doodling The World zeigt Werner Linstereine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit 'Doodles', gedankenlos hingekritzelte Zeichnungen, die er in Manuskripten und Veröffentlichungen gefunden hat. Linster recherchiert Beispiele cross-medialer Abweichstrategien in Briefen, Manuskripten und raren Texten von Franz Kafka und Samuel  Beckett und stellt diese flüchtigen und gleichzeitig dynamischen, oft comic-haften Bildphantasien als found footage vor.
Freaks Of Nature betitelt die dreiteilige Ausstellungsreihe, die das Badische Landes-museum Karlsruhe 2011 und 2012 als Retrospektive für Susanne Ring ausgerichtet hat. Wie Linster, produziert Ring eine Fülle von Skizzen, nicht auf Papier, sondern als Plastik  aus Ton und bietet Reflektions- und Projektionsprozessen wie Suchen, Finden, Selektieren und Arrangieren eine Bühne. Ring führt Regie und ordnet ihre Wesen in Ensembles an, sodass sie wie Momentaufnahmen oder Passagen einer Geschichte wirken. In der Zusammenfügung von Einzelarbeiten, kombiniert aus unterschiedlichsten Materialien, wird auf psychische Brüchigkeit unterhalb der menschlichen Oberfläche untersucht.
For the show Doodling the World, Linster researched the cross-media divergence in manuscripts and letters of Franz Kafka and Samuel Beckett and presents these swift and simultaneously dynamic, often comic-like visual fantasies as found footage. He discovered the Doodles like pressed flowers, bugs or butterflies between the pages. Copied out in his own hand, they are now presented on the gallery's walls, thus directing the focus of attention to an unknown characteristic of the author's aesthetics and personality. Freaks of Nature is the title of an exhibition series, produced as a retrospective by the Badische Landesmuseum Karlsruhe in 2011 and 2012 for the Berlin artist Susanne Ring. Freaks Of Nature presents her three-dimensional ensembles, merging figurative sculpture with built objects in a stage-like installation. Like Linster, Ring produces masses of scetches -- though not on paper, but as sculptures out of clay. She as well gives stage to the process of reflection and projection: seeking, finding, selecting and arranging. Ring directs and sets her beings into ensembles, so that they appear as moments in time or passages of stories. In combining the single works made from various materials, she examines the psychological fragility beneath the human surface.

_____________________________________________________________________________ VERNISSAGE: 19.10.12, 19 - 21 When ships sink, they do it in water Wenn Schiffe sinken, passiert das im Wasser Installation, works on canvas, objects SARA CHRISTENSEN 19.10 - 15.12.2012 In der Ausstellung When Ships Sink, They Do It In Water (Wenn Schiffe sinken, passiert das im Wasser) werden Objekte auf ihre performativen Möglichkeiten hin untersucht und durch eine Nebeneinanderstellung erweitert. Die Arbeiten beziehen sich auf das Thema Seefahrt und sind als integrierte Elemente einer größeren Installation zu betrachten. Rum zirkuliert in einer Skulptur in Form eines Springbrunnens, dessen Form an die Schornsteine großer Schiffe erinnert. Weiche Objekte, 'Floating Voters', gefüllt mit Polyesterkügelchen sind aus gestrickten Pullovern, Regenjacken, Arbeitskleidung, Decken oder Planen zusammengenäht. Die Formen lassen einen an Sicherheitsboote, Cargofrachten, Bojen, Hütten, Taschen und Sicherheitskits denken. Die Materialien durchlaufen eine Transformation und die Varianten von Veränderungsmöglichkeiten werden durchgespielt, untersucht und verweisen in ihrer überraschenden Dehnbarkeit auf unterschiedliche Aspekte des Humors. In the exhibition When Ships Sink, They Do It In Water; singular pieces are challenged in their potential to expand through juxtaposition. The works point in direction of a realm of the maritime and can be viewed as integrated elements of a bigger installation.One finds a sculpture in the form of a welded fountain; the shape departs in a stylized version of chimneys you see on bigger ships, its circulating rum. The soft sculptures Floating Voters filled with polystyrene balls, are skilfully sewn together out of knitted sweaters, rain coats, work wear, blankets and tarpaulin into imagined forms bringing associations to safety rafts, cargo, buoys, shelters, bags or safety kits.The materials used undergo a transformation and the inherent potential of mutability are stretched and investigated and naturally invite the aspect of humour. |
