Meet our new Director and get glitzy for the Glitter Gala

Meet our new Director and get glitzy for the Glitter Gala!

.
Last month, the American Folk Art Museum announced the appointment of our new Executive Director, Dr. Anne-Imelda Radice. The museum staff is thrilled to begin working under Dr. Radice's leadership to provide "opportunities for you to discover not only the meaning of what you are looking at but also the power." Dr. Radice introduces herself to our community in a letter that you can read here

This month, we gear up for the fall benefit Glitter Gala on October 18, an evening of glitz and celebration where we raise necessary funds in support of museum exhibitions and programming. It's not too late to support the museum and join us for an evening of glamour and entertainment. Tickets are still available.

Glitter Gala
Thursday, October 18 - 6:30–11 pm

This year we invite guests of the annual Fall Benefit to enjoy a variety of food, art, music, and entertainment options in a Choose Your Own Adventurestyle evening in the penthouse of Studio 450, a stunning venue overlooking the High Line. Mingle with other party-goers and bid on valuable art, superimpose yourself into collection imagery, play games on the terrace, or receive a glittery make-over.  Upper-level ticket holders are invited to an intimate VIP dinner with the Trustees preceding the cocktail reception, organized by the event staff of the New York Food and Wine Festival.

By supporting this glittery event, you will help raise funds for the museum’s critically acclaimed exhibitions and its wide range of educational programming. If you have any questions or wish to purchase a table, please contact Courtney Wagner, special events manager, at 212. 977. 7299, or via e-mail.

Free Music FridaysJalopy Theatre presents the Whistling Wolves
Friday, October 5 - 5:30 pm

Enjoy live music and a cash wine bar in the galleries each Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Admission is always free.

The Whistling Wolves have quickly become a favorite on the New York old-time scene, playing packed houses and sharing the stage with national acts like Bruce Molsky and Alice Gerrard.

With hot fiddle tunes, back porch torch songs, sweet waltzes, snappy cakewalks, jug band blues, and shape note hymns, the band's diverse backgrounds range from old-time and blues to folk and rock 'n roll. Thanks to one member's obscenely large collection of 78s, the group spent the past four years digging deep into the archives of American music, bringing to the stage many long-forgotten gems.
