 October 2012
October is for making mischief

October is Chicago Artists Month, and we're bringing out the big guns to celebrate. We've got two panel discussions with Chicago's top emerging artists, open studios with our recently arrived resident artists, self-guided tours of our Doug Garofalo-deisgned and Driehaus Award-winning building for Open House Chicago Weekend, our monthly Second Sunday event for kids and families, and of course, one of our favorite and most anticipated events of the year: Mischief Night!

Visit our website for more info on everything coming up at the Art Center this month, including all the spooky, weird, fantastical performances and workshops we'll be hosting for Mischief Night. You won't want to miss it!

Exhibitions, et cetera
panel discussions and open studios

October 3, 6-8pm
How do written texts inform, shape, imbue, devalue, or otherwise affect visual art? What exactly is the nexus of visual and textual representation of art? This panel discussion will address these questions in terms of the role of critical writing and authorial representations of artists themselves. Moderated by Hyde Park Art Center's Interim Exhibitions Manager, Aaron Ott, the panel will include Claudine Ise, Amelia Ishmael, and Michelle Grabner.   for more info.

October 13, 12-2pm
Led by Ground Floor catalogue essayist Caroline Picard, this panel discussion gathers some of Chicago's top young talent in Ground Floor  artists Jeremy Bolen, Tony Lewis, Eric May, and Shane Ward as they confront the relevance of their own art practice within large art world contexts.  for more info.

October 13, 2-4pm
Join the Hyde Park Art Center for refreshments and informal conversation with Istanbul-based Deniz Gül and Chicago artist Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spofford, our first residents participating in the inaugural Jackman class selected for The Residency, a new Art Center initiative. During open studio hours, the public is invited to learn about the artists' process and practice and viewing works-in-progress. This event is in conjunction with  Chicago Artists Month to learn more about the artists.
