GREENLINE HALF MARATHON

Last year, Shelby Farms Park Conservancy produced its first ever race--the Greenline Half Marathon. The race itself was a huge success and was so popular that we decided to bring it back this year. We knew that bringing the race back meant making it better, more exciting and more sustainable than last year, so we've been working hard to do just that. We've been working with the Council for Responsible Sport to earn ReSport certification for the race, which means that we've made some changes and additions to the race that will make it better for the environment.

What are some of the things that will make this race greener than others?

Shelby Farms Greenline turns two years old this month, so we're throwing a birthday party (or two). Join us at the events listed below to celebrate all the fun we've had cruising down the Greenline in the past two years!

Bands, Bikes + Block Parties

Park After Dark

The party continues at the Park with a moonlight concert, food + drinks.

Baptist Memorial Health Care: A Great Neighbor for a Great Park

Our friends and neighbors at Baptist Memorial Health Care do a lot of great work in the community. In fact, as of this year, they've provided 100 years of excellent care in the Mid-South. In honor of their work, 100 overcup oak trees were planted at the main entrance of Shelby Farms Park earlier this year. On September 27, Baptist Memorial Health Care brought a group of employee volunteers to the Park to steward and care for the trees. Over 100 hands came together for this project, symbolizing the strong partnership and care that Baptist Memorial Health Care provides for the community and for Shelby Farms Park. This project also emphasizes the strong connection between the health of the environment and the health of our community--caring for one generates care for the other.

In keeping with our shared goal of improving the health of our community, we partnered with Baptist Memorial Health Care to create the ShelbyFit app. It's a free app that allows users to log their physical activity over time, shares fitness tips and even helps you find places to be active, like Shelby Farms Park + Shelby Farms Greenline. Charging Up at SFPC

September 19th marked an exciting milestone for Shelby Farms Park, Shelby County and the City of Memphis as we officially cut the ribbon and opened West Tennessee's first SMART solar-assisted charging station for electric vehicles. The project was funded through TVA grants and will be used as a tool to gather data for EPRI. Electric vehicles, like the Chevy Volt (pictured), can be plugged into the station to charge for free and users can enjoy the Park while they wait. This free amenity is a great fit for the Park and for the community. We're very proud to host the SMART station and look forward to our ongoing role as leaders in sustainability.
