Cologne Fine Art & Antiques 2012:
Wallraf-Richartz-Museum presents high-calibre Old Master drawings exhibition at COFAA

At Cologne Fine Art & Antiques 2012, the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud is set to continue its tradition of cooperation with the renowned Cologne fair. The Museum’s Prints and Drawings Collection Museum will present a high-calibre, specially curated exhibition showcasing 16th and 17th-century Italian drawings. Open every day during the Fair, it will be staged in Hall 11.2 at Koelnmesse, Cologne’s Trade Fair Centre. The exhibition focusses on mount annotations made by leading specialists. These annotations have produced new attributions and make it possible to establish the authorship of the drawings.

As the Wallraf’s Prints and Drawings Collection explains, “What is termed ‘mount annotations’ or ‘mount notes’ represents the immediate expression of an expert’s judgement.” Hand-written mount annotations made by leading authorities – often with critical comment on a colleague’s notes – have led to reattributions of the drawings exhibited and have newly established their authorship. Normally the museum visitor has no access to this type of dialogue between experts because it remains hidden from view. But this dialogue contributes to a continuous process of identification and certification.

The Wallraf exhibition forms a direct link with the new ‘Works on Paper’ section at the Fair – successfully launched in 2011 and now set to be a firm fixture. “We’re delighted to build on our traditional cooperation with the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud,” says Cornelia Zinken, Cologne Fine Art & Antiques Director. “The Museum is making a high-calibre contribution to the outstanding quality of the Fair both in terms of its exhibitors and its exhibits.”

The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud special exhibition will be open daily for the duration of the Fair. Venue: Hall 11.2, Stand C 51.

Cologne Fine Art & Antiques:
“Excellent beyond time. Beautiful beyond borders.” The Fair’s exciting juxtaposition of styles and epochs, its outstanding mix of Ancient Art, Old and Modern Masters, Applied Art, Design and Works on Paper showcased under one roof, sets it apart from all national and international events of its kind.
Cologne Fine Art & Antiques 2012 is scheduled for 21 to 25 November. Around 100 gallerists and dealers will be exhibiting.
