Important Announcement from The Retro Dome, Closing January 2013
Dearest Fans,
If you've been following the birth and life of The Retro Dome you know we opened September 4, 2009 with the knowledge that our time in the space might be temporary because the owners of the building planned to demolish the property at some point down the road. Now, just weeks into what would be our fourth year in business, we've learned our lease will not be renewed for the time has come to begin the renovations for the corner lot. Therefore, it is our sad duty to report that operations at the The Retro Dome will cease as of January 31, 2013. We appreciate the time that the building owners, Federal Realty, have given us at The Retro Dome site. They have always been clear with their plans and we wish them well in their future development.
"What can we do?"
We know this news will come as a shock to some of you and the first thing you might ask is, "what can we do?" Truly, the best thing you can do is come see "THE GAME SHOW SHOW" or tell any friends you think would enjoy the show to "come on down!" We need your support now more than ever to keep the momentum of what we’ve created going so we can easily transition from this venue to what we hope will be our new home come January 2013. We survive SOLELY on ticket sales and will be depending on your patronage to make the transition from one location to another.
"Will you offer your programs elsewhere after you close The Retro Dome?"
Throughout the busy production season described below Guggenheim Entertainment, Inc. will be looking for another location to continue the programming developed at The Retro Dome. We have our eyes on a couple of venues in the South Bay and are certainly open to ideas if you know of any spaces that would be conducive to serving as a home to our programs.
"Is The Retro Dome still operating now?"
YES! We intend to pack as much entertainment as possible into this happy place before our time is up. Please save the dates for any or all of these upcoming events:
"The Game Show Show" - Now Playing in The Blue Room
Please don’t miss this show! Tickets are on sale through November 18 BUT if sales merit, we’ll be able to continue performances into December, and those shows will feature a holiday twist making it the perfect time to see the show again. The Game Show Show offers a truly impressive evening of entertainment with star performances and a lot of laughter. Come on down!
Fall & Winter Movie and Comedy Series - Now Playing in The Red Room
Our retro movies, sing-alongs and quote-alongs will continue as planned through the end of January 2013. Upcoming titles include "Ghostbusters", "The Wizard of Oz", "Superman", "Batman", and "Goodfellas", plus Halloween favorites, Trek or Treat and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We will also welcome ComedySportz back for their annual Christmas Day and New Year's Eve events. Check our website and save the date for your favorite events.
“Santastic!” - Coming December 1 for four weekends only
We are eagerly anticipating next week’s auditions to see what the youth of Silicon Valley have to offer and hope to cast a dynamic ensemble of young professional performers for our holiday extravaganza, “Santastic!” The experience will be like no other family event in the Bay Area: a 45-minute holiday revue with your favorite holiday songs and stories followed by photos with Santa and his elves and Imagination Stations where guests can make holiday cards and crafts, decorate cookies, enjoy peppermint hot cocoa, and mingle in the Lava Lounge sharing holiday cheer.
“The MeshugaNutcracker! - Sunday December 16
Our swan song in the Dome will be a one-night only concert featuring the music and stories from our original musical, “The MeshugaNutcracker!” This exclusive event will serve as a chance to share in the miracle of Chanukah and allow us to thank the community for its support while showcasing this beautiful and timely original musical. Additionally, the event will serve as a fundraiser to help us kick off our search for our new home, as well as aid in covering the massive expense to vacate the building we’ve called home for three years.
We know you will have more questions about the future. We’ll do our best to address each inquiry individually and will certainly post frequently asked questions on our website.
Hopefully, as a dedicated fan, you'll want to get involved in our effort to close out the current venue and help with the search for a new venue. Please contact us with ideas, questions and concerns. And, if you'd like to be contacted when it's time to start our move, please
contactus@guggyent.com; we will certainly need many able-bodied volunteers to empty the dome of all our retro keepsakes and theatre equipment.
Although we would love to have had more time in this dome, that has become a home-away-from-home for our staff and so many devoted fans, we are humbled by the accomplishments we've made to date: numerous awards and accolades from the press and our fans, hundreds of events, tens of thousands of guests, and all in such a short period of time. We thank you for all of your support and thank you in advance for your patronage at our upcoming events, now and in our future home.
Come dig the dome...before it’s gone!
Sincerely,
Scott, Shannon, Steve and the entire gang at The Retro Dome
