Guest Artist to give viola recital at Bradley University
Peoria, IL (October 17, 2012) István Szabό, associate professor of viola at Western Illinois University, will perform a recital on Wednesday, October 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W Barker Avenue, on the campus of Bradley University. The performance is free and open to the public.
Szabό will be joined by pianist Narae Joo, in works by Vitali, Glinka, Bruch, Prokofiev and Piazzolla.
Szabό is a graduate of the University of Illinois (M.M; DMA) and of the "George Dima" Academy of Music in Cluj, Romania with a double major in viola performance and pedagogy. He studied at the University of Illinois with Rudolf Haken. While a student at the "George Dima" Academy of Music, Szabo studied viola with Albert Derzsi, Marius Suarasan, and chamber music with Ferdinand Weiss and Ilse Laszlo-Herbert. He also participated in workshops with prestigious artists and teachers such as Karen Tuttle, Hatto Beyerle (founding member of the Alban Berg String Quartet), Sandor Devich (founding member of the Bartok String Quartet), the Amadeus String Quartet, the Schubert String Quartet, and Pal Szabo, cellist of the Vegh String Quartet.
Szabό has been on the music faculty at Western Illinois University since 2005.
