THIS THURSDAY

STANDING ROOM ONLY
EPISODE ONE
Performance Art, a new genre for Trifecta Gallery, in which the topics rendered are the same narrative that contemporary artists explore except told with the human body as its main tool.
Specifically, Barrett addresses gender subjectivity, disjointedness among identity, subtracting the ego, constricting the phallus, repetition over time, tendencies during peak and rest, and patterns in relation to action. Often times the works are site specific using the body as a metaphor for larger social, political, and personal issues.
"Standing? Yes. Standing Still? Probably Not."
(you may have to move out of the way of some harmless flying objects)
You can expect to find him negotiating situations in which corporality and gender are pushed to extremes as he navigates across a number of self-imposed obstacles. You can almost see the complex decision making processes associated with each barrier.
Barrett is a former U.S. Marine, cancer survivor, and college athlete. He echoes the conflict situations created by artist Howard Fried, examines trust and risk by Chris Burden, and is influenced by the endurance and time based work of Marina Abramovic.
