Shake, Rattle and Roll at Access Gallery
November 16-December 21, 2012
(Denver) Shake,
Rattle and Roll is a new exhibit of works created by the Artists of VSA
Colorado/Access Gallery. With the goal of providing creative and educational opportunities for
people with disabilities, this show highlights how different programs allow
their students access and experience the arts. The show runs November 16- December 21, 2012 at 909
Santa Fe Drive. The public is invited to view and purchase artwork Tuesday-Friday
10am-5pm and during the following special events:
Opening Reception: Third Friday, November 16, 5-8 pm
First Friday Art Walk: December 7, 5-9 pm
Closing Reception and Holiday Party: Third Friday, December 21, 5-8 pm (Last day to pick up
commissioned artwork.)
Shake. Back for the third year, our Students from the
ArtWorks program will be exhibiting their custom pet portraits. As a way to
help inspire their future animal paintings and learn more about their favorite
breeds, they visited a local doggie day care to interact and “shake” hands with
the dogs. Everyone is invited to bring in a photo of their pet and have a
student of their choice create an affordable painting on canvas! Orders for
custom pet portraits, can be place now through December 7th to be
ready in time for the holidays.
Rattle. After a field trip to the Denver Art Museum, the
Explorers Group from the Colorado Easter Seals Society created work in the
style of the artist, El Anatsui. With the use of bottle caps, fabric, and other
items supplied by Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) they have created mixed
media works that “rattle” when moved.
Roll. Professional artist Emily vonSwearingen worked with
several of our young artists on a photographic piece about transportation for
people with disabilities in Denver. Using the light rail, bus system, bikes and
the occasional hike across town, each of these young people learned how to
navigate the city and keep on a “roll”— a vital skill for self-sufficiency.
VSA Colorado/Access Gallery is
an inclusive nonprofit organization that engages the community by opening doors
to creative and educational opportunities for people with disabilities to
access and experience the arts. The
gallery is located at 909 Santa Fe Drive, in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe
and welcomes visitors Tuesday-Friday 10am-5pm and First Fridays until 9pm. For
