Are you tired of art exhibits so firmly rooted in the concerns of the present?
Is this century moving too slow for your smart phone?
Has the word "Contemporary" lost all meaning to you?
Well, Redbud Gallery and Clark Derbes know how you feel and we want to help.
Presenting
Time Travelers
Pre-Historic Art of the Future...Today!
Greetings!
Please be our guest for the opening of artist Clark Derbes. Clark (born 1978, Metarie, Louisiana) grew up in Baton Rouge and currently lives and works with his wife and son in Vermont, Louisiana, and Texas.
He began this body of work as an exploration of chainsaw carving as a sculptural medium. He stumbled into the nth dimension...
These pieces are intended to embody and evoke multiple visual and historical qualities including the pre-historic, optical, minimal, and expressionistic. These Time Travelers tend to move in space as the observer views them. The surfaces of these sculptures are explorations of the painted abstract imagery with roots in Amish and southern quilt design as much as in primitivism and expressionism. The painted surface heightens the distorted sense of depth that these works hold. Pervasive throughout is a sense of tongue-in-cheek humor and playfulness. |
