AL GREEN
+ Special Guest LALAH HATHAWAY
Friday, October 26 @ 8PM
NYCB Theatre at Westbury
960 Brush Hollow Road
Westbury, NY 11590
Arkansas-born Al Green a.k.a. the Reverend Al Green was the first great soul singer of the 1970s and perhaps the last great Southern soul singer.
With his seductive early ’70s singles , Al bridged the gap between deep soul and smooth Philadelphia soul. He incorporated elements of gospel and interjected his vocals with moans and wails, yet his recordings were stylish featuring a tight beat, sexy back up vocals, and lush strings. This distinctive sound made Green the most popular and influential soul singer of that period, influencing not only his contemporaries, but also veteran performers including Marvin Gaye.
Spend an evening with Al and his superb special guest Lalah Hathaway at one of Long Island's finest venues.
