Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen
November Fine Craft Fair

Discover the joy of a
hand-made ornament

The Guild announces its holiday ornament extravaganza at the Center of American Craft in downtown Lancaster.  Members of the Lancaster Designer Craftsmen chapter of the Guild will guide you through the process of making ceramic, wheat, wood, woven, and painted ornaments.  Satisfy your curiousity and find out how to use a mini-lathe, how wheat weaving relates to the harvest cycle, what weaving technique 18th century denizens used to keep their stockings up, and more.

Mix and match two-hour workshops and walk away with several ornaments to adorn your home:

Wood Turning Ornaments with Brian Cunfer,
Saturday December 8, 10 am - 3 pm
Theorem Painting Ornaments with Sandra Coldren,
Saturday December 8, 10 am - 12 pm

A Thing or Two

Join us for the opening of "A Thing or Two"

and celebrate extended holiday hours

First Friday, December 7, we'll celebrate the opening of our holiday exhibit, A Thing or Two. We received excellent submissions from our juried members. Some designed surprise ways to use their items - a covered dish that becomes two bowls, for example.  Others wove together forms, challenging the viewer to decide where one item ends and the second begins.  Still others explored sets of two, like exquisitely crafted salt and pepper shakers, mittens, or a set of two hand-woven baskets.

To showcase this unique exhibition and allow you extra time for holiday shopping, you'll find our store and gallery open extended hours for the holiday season:
  • Monday-Thursday 10-5
  • Friday 10-7
  • Saturday 10-5
  • Sunday 12-4
A Thing or Two will occupy our gallery until January 5. Come satisfy your curiosity and fill your Christmas stocking at the Guild's headquarters on 335 N. Queen St.
Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen receives grants

PA Guild receives

$65,000 in education grants

The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen was awarded $65,000 on Friday in grant support for educational programs from the Lancaster County Community Foundation. This extraordinary sum is an affirmation of both the Guild’s programming potential and the community’s commitment to develop the Guild into a keystone destination, said Sherrie Boyer, executive director.

One $15,000 grant will fund a business plan to develop programs to teach seniors real craftsmanship techniques. The seniors could then use their new-found skills to develop craft for others, especially those in need.

The second grant, a $50,000 matching gift, focuses on transforming the Center of American Craft into a vibrant, accessible, and affordable destination for craft education for youth, adults, and seniors. The vision is to turn the facility into a magnet location for those who want to make, learn about, or teach craft. Boyer said educational programs at the Center will focus on using realcraftsmanship techniques at all age and skill levels. “We know that the making of craft enriches lives,” said Boyer. “Teaching craft will stimulate intellectual growth and emotional enrichment, honor our natural, and instinctively personal, desire for artistic expression, and result in a powerful, sought-after resource that will forever burgeon into social, economic and cultural benefits for all.”
