TOMORROW
Opening Reception for Navigating Queer Pacific Waves
Saturday, January 12
6:30pm - Members’ preview
7:30pm - General admission
Free and open to the public

Galería de la Raza and the Queer Cultural Center are pleased to present Navigating Queer Pacific Waves (NQPW), a group exhibition featuring new works by lead artists Jean Melesaine, Jorge Manuel Gonzales, and Joy Enomoto. NQPW explores constructions of queer Pacific Islander identity alongside historical narratives of Western colonial practices – which the latter sought to silence and eradicate queer identities from these communities. Through documentary photography, painting, and mixed media works, this exhibition captures narratives of queer Oceanic peoples.

NQPW is a recipient of Galería’s 2011/2012 Grantwriting for Indigenous and Native American Artists Fund (GINAA), a capacity-building and commissioning grant program funded by the Native American Arts and Cultural Traditions Program of the San Francisco Arts Commission. NQPW is also a grantee of the Queer Cultural Center’s Healthy Community Program.
