LISTINGS JANUARY - JULY 2013
CURRENT
Havana By Ron
Bambridge Until 13 February
2013
AOP Member Ron
Bambridge set himself a personal assignment to explore the old town of
Vieja in Havana, Cuba. What interested Bambridge as a photographer
was how Havana is suspended in a time zone, this being what drew him to
want to photograph the city. Bambridge's passion for the city is
showcased in his project of 20 images.

Gypsy
Kings By Terri
Potoczna 14 February
– 13 March 2013
For this Hungarian
Arts Foundation (NKA) supported project, Terri Potoczna advertised for Roma

choices as well as their comments about Roma identity.

I belong Jarrow By Chris Harrison 14 March – 10 April 2013
Chris Harrison was born and bought up in Jarrow, a tough industrial
town on the south bank of the river Tyne. It's where he calls home.
Since becoming estranged from Jarrow through himself and his family moving
away, Harrison has been forced to think about who he is and where he
belongs. This selection of images showcases Harrison's memories of
the places and people still living in Jarrow.

‘Unseen World - A Series of Sideways
Glances’ Nick Dunmur,
Lottie Davies, Sean Johnson, Martin Brent & Edward
Webb 11 March – 08
May 2013
Reluctant to throw
away 5 rolls of unused transparency film (albeit, passed the expiry date),
AOP member, Sean Johnson came up with the idea of inviting four other AOP
photographers to collaborate in a small project, using one of the 5 rolls
of film each.
Sean's idea was that
each photographer should walk a route normally driven by car, hence the
'Unseen World' title of the collaboration. In addition to that, however,
Sean also sent out a series of 5 sealed envelopes to each participant,
asking that each fellow member should open only one. In this envelope were
instructions relating specifically to how the photographer should negotiate
that route.

The Spirit of
Brooklands by Douglas
Kurn 09 May – 05
June 2013
Brooklands was the
worlds first ever purpose built motor racing track, and the scene of the
first British Grand Prix. During it’s time many land speed records
were broken there, and Brooklands became a major centre for automotive
technology and development. The Spirit of Brooklands is a project
undertaken by photographer Douglas Kurn, to document the remains of the
circuit, and areas where the track has been removed but there has been an
acknowledgment of its existence.

India 2012 By Philip
James 06 June – 03 July 2013
Phil James was commissioned to travel
to Uttar Pradesh in India to shoot a documentary for Project Mala, a
charity action programme for the elimination of child labour from the hand
knotted carpet industry. Whilst he was travelling
through the area – Phil was overwhelmed by the beautiful landscape
and the colours of the traditional Indian life often captured by
photographers. But he was also truly inspired by the family life he
witnessed, which was so different to his own upbringing and that of his
role as a father in the 21st century.
