Art Stage Singapore Closes 2013 Fair on a High Note

Art Stage Singapore Closes 2013 Fair on a High Note
Singapore, 28 January 2013.

The third edition of Art Stage Singapore concluded successfully, with the fair recording significant sales and a marked increase in visitor numbers.

“Art Stage Singapore has made a great start to 2013,” said Lorenzo Rudolf, Fair Director. “Last year was a challenging year for many art fairs, galleries and artists, and we had to work hard to improve on many aspects of the fair. I’m pleased to see that our efforts have been rewarded.” Over the five fair days we welcomed 40 500 visitors, many of which were first-time fairgoers including artists, collectors, curators and members of the media. Galleries reported good sales, and meaningful meetings with many new local, regional and international buyers and institutions. “Our key focus on Southeast Asia is absolutely right – we have created an internationally competitive platform to promote emerging and established artists from the region.”

Feedback from galleries has been positive, Jasdeep Sandhu of Gajah Gallery commented, “Art Stage 2013 is definitely the best art fair Gajah has ever participated in, in terms of sales. We met a lot of new buyers.” For emerging artists, Art Stage Singapore has also proven itself an effective platform to generate interest, “I think the fair has become a strong point of attraction to the local audience, we have had extended dialogues with enthusiastic art lovers. I am in discussion with a potential buyer for the whole New Black City installation.” Jason Wee, one of the curators of the Singapore Platform remarked.

Collectors too were impressed by the quality of works being showcased, as Sylvain Levy said, "I will definitely be here again next year.  Everyone is very happy – the collectors and the galleries.  At Art Stage Singapore, you can discover things that you don't find at other fairs, especially Southeast Asian art, and this is very interesting for me as a Westerner. Indonesian art in particular is something new to me, and the level and quality of works presented at the fair is so interesting".

The Indonesian Pavilion, the flagship component of Art Stage 2013, has fulfilled its goal of promoting and presenting Indonesian contemporary art to a new global audience. Artists, collectors, galleries, members of the media and visitors all agreed that the pavilion was a fantastic addition to the fair, and provided a better understanding of the scene and its potential. Most importantly, the pavilion has acted as a catalyst for growth for the various Southeast Asian art scenes.

Art Stage would like to thank all the participating galleries, artists, collectors, partners and sponsors who came together to make the fair such a great success.
