Brooklyn, NY. January 21,2013.   Causey Contemporary is pleased to announce that artist, Kevin Bourgeois is involved in three important art events taking place this February and March.   Kevin will have a postcard in this year's Postcards from the Edge benefit for Visual Aids; a mixed media drawing in the Time In auction to benefit children's art initiatives hosted at Marianne  Boesky Gallery and a reception for his solo show at Nest Seekers International as part of Armory Night in Williamsburg. 

Postcards From the Edge is predominantly known as one of the highlight benefits from Visual AIDS, where the public has the opportunity to purchase original pieces of artwork by both established and emerging artists for only $85 each. The 15th annual event will be held from January 25-27, 2013 at Sikkema Jenkins & Co. gallery, located at 530 W. 22nd Street in New York City.

Each fall Visual AIDS conducts an annual call to artists from around the world interested in donating a postcard-sized piece of original artwork. This year the organization expects to receive upwards of 1,500+ postcard-sized pieces, which will be uniformly priced at $85 each.
Adding a twist to things, all works are displayed anonymously, with the artist?s identity revealed only after the work has been purchased. Confirmed participating artists include: John Baldessari, Lawrence Weiner, William Wegman, Kara Walker, Christian Marclay, Marilyn Minter, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Donald Baechler, Ann Hamilton, Bill Viola, Kiki Smith, Ross Bleckner, Arturo Herrera, Catherine Opie, Aziz + Cucher, Billy Sullivan, Alexis Smith, Nancy Burson, Jack Pierson Joel Shapiro, Tony Feher, Louise Fishman, Fred Wilson, Moyra Davey, John Waters, Kay Rosen, Xylor Jane, Ernesto Pujol, Simon Doonan, Jonathan Adler, Julie Mehretu, Jessica Rankin, Scott Hug, Dotty Attie, Patty Chang, Nancy Burson, Kerry James Marshall, Jane Hammond, Janaina Tschape, Burt Barr, Mitch Epstein, Josephine Halvorson, Cary Leibowitz, Sam Durant, William Pope.L, Eileen Neff, Alex Da Corte, and Vito Acconci, among many others.  Causey Contemporary is delighted to have Kevin Bourgeois included amongst this stellar list of participants.

Then on February 18, Kevin's work will be included in the Time In Auction hosted by Marianne Boesky Gallery.  Time In is a groundbreaking arts initiative that brings some of New York’s y oungest, most at-risk public school children out of underserved classrooms in Harlem and the South Bronx, and into the world of the living arts every week of the school year as part of their normal school day. Founded in 2006, Time In transforms the lives of inner city children, as it inspires learning and engagement in a nurturing, multi-sensorial learning environment that enriches children’s lives and helps them reach their fullest potential.

A formidable advocate for educational change through artistic enrichment in under-resourced New York City communities, Time In is proud to have been a source of enlightenment and enrichment for more than 1000 deserving Pre-K – 2nd graders – as well as their classroom teachers and parent chaperones – since its debut. Working in a close partnership with some of the city’s most challenged public schools, Time In’s inspiring approach to an artscentric education continues to bolster and transform communities where some of the country’s poorest children are subject to debilitating academic and social inequities.

The Time In Gala and Auction will be held on February 18, 2013 from 6 - 9 p.m.  collectors can bid in both a silent and a live auction.  Paddle 8 is conducting the live auction and additionally has the auction art on their site so collectors can bid from the comfort of their homes as well as on the night of the gala.

Kevin's work for the auction is entitled  I'm gonna  love you forever, no.1 and consists of graphite, acrylic and mixed media on black paper.  The piece measures 12 x 15.  Completed in 2012, it is one of a series of mixed media works which Kevin has developed over the past year. 

Works from a second ser ies featuring drawings collaged with record album covers as well as some of Kevin's graphite and white pencil drawings will be featured at the third event- Socio-political: the drawings of Kevin Bourgeois at Nest Seekers International.    As part of the Armory Brooklyn night in Williamsburg being held on March 9, 2013from 6 - 9 p.m.,  Alex Dietrich of NestSeekers , Causey Contemporary and Kevin Bourgeois himself will be on hand to discuss Kevin's work with visitors over a glass of wine.  Additionally, Kevin will be personally signing  a  limited edition print from his "hello" series for collectors. 

Kevin  Bourgeois has been working as a self taught contemporary artist for over fifteen years using all available means to educate and expand his vocabulary in Modern Art.  Starting in the late eighties with encouragement from his art teachers in high school, Kevin began personal research and exposing himself to many forms of contemporary art.    In 1991, Kevin held his first solo and group exhibitions in a gallery.   Since living in New York Kevin has exhibited in locally and internationally.  He has exhibited in group exhibitions with Causey Contemporary, Fuse Gallery and Exit Art in New York, with Parlor Gallery and the Shore Institute of Contemporary Art in New Jersey and with the Peacock Room, The Cornell Center Gallery and Wilfong Remeres Gallery in Florida.  His work has also been exhibited at Collectors Contemporary in Singapore, the Virginia Beach Museum of Art and the Orlando Museum of Art. Additionally, Kevin’s work has  been published in Swindle Magazine, Wallspankers Magazine, Vapors Magazine, Asian Art News, Village Voice, Lucid Culture and others.  Artist registries include The Drawing Center and Artist's Space.   In the past two years he has been included in the touring exhibition DRAW at the Museo de l a Chided de Mexico curated by Erik Foss and Curse Mackey, in Songs at Fuse Gallery, NYC, in the 3D ART BOOK just  released by Prestel Publishing, in Art in Time Square(as well as the forthcoming book from this project), in a solo exhibition, SYS at Causey Contemporary and in a group exhibition at Collector’s Contemporary in Singapore alongside art by Man Ray, Andy Warhol, Donald Baechler, Richard Serra and Thomas Ruff.  His work can be  found in prominent private and public collections in California, Florida, New Jersey, New York, London and Singapore.
