January 17-April 13, 2013 MASTERS II An International Quilt Event ARTFABRIK by Laura Wasilowski The world of quilting has moved way beyond pretty patchwork bedcovers. Case in point: an exhibition of art quilts opening this Thursday, January 17th at the New England Quilt Museum. Created by 36 artists based in fourteen different countries on three continents, these vibrant works represent the very best in modern art. The Masters II exhibition is the follow-up to the original Masters exhibition of works by members of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates), including a touring collection and a companion book by guest curator and SAQA Executive Director Martha Sielman (Storrs, CT). Like the first, this exhibition includes a companion book featuring several works by each of the artists represented in the touring exhibition. The book is for sale in the NEQM Store. An Opening Night Reception will be held from 5:30-7:30PM on Thursday, January 17th. On Saturday, January 19th, join us for a Curator's Reception from 1-3PM featuring a talk by exhibition special curator Martha Sielman. Masters II runs through April 13, 2013. Two Short Films About the Museum ONE SERIOUS. THE OTHER... NOT SO MUCH. Recent intern Zachary Zolud has produced two short films about the New England Quilt Museum that appear online on YouTube and the museum's website. One relates the history and importance of the museum, while the other is a humorous look at the mysterious world of quilting through the eyes of a young man who was without a clue before he stepped through our doors.
