Art13 London Announces Art13 Performance Programme

With only 3 weeks until the opening, Art13 London, London's new global art fair, is rapidly building momentum. Art13 London, sponsored by Citi Private Bank, will feature over 120 leading galleries from 30 different countries. The Fair will present a truly global perspective, showcasing artworks from 1945 to the present day.

ART13 LONDON ANNOUNCES ART13 PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME

Art13 London is delighted to announce Art13 Performances, a dedicated platform for the presentation of performance art. Curated by Amanprit Sandhu, the performance programme will take place across the public days of the Fair (1-3 March) on a dedicated performance booth (Stand F1) and will showcase 12 performances by international artists.

The performance booth is curated around three themes: storytelling, the body and language. Bedwyr Williams, Ceri Hand Gallery will perform a twenty minute reading describing his imagined burglary of a designer's flat. Pantone switches get burnt and bad things happen to font directories in this darkly comic performance that prefigures Williams' appearance representing Wales at the Venice Biennale in June 2013.

Clad only in a pair of black running shorts and with his skin covered in red paint Malaysian artist Joel Yuen, 2902 Gallery, presents Anthem. Yuen will skip on the spot in the booth to the background sound of audience cheers before quickly donning a suit and standing to attention.

Meanwhile the performance duo Ingrid Mwangi Robert Hutter, Alexander Ochs Galleries Berlin | Beijing, will use a live camera to capture the artist handling fruit in a disturbingly sensuous manner. Amplified sounds of chewing will be sampled in an accompanying ambient soundtrack.

Other performances feature séances, home-made instruments and avatars moving around with microphones taped to their mouths. The booth breaks new territory by embedding performance within the art fair context and demonstrates Art13 London's commitment to showcasing the newest art forms.
