UICA’s 12th annual fundraising event, Live Coverage, featuring over 50 West Michigan artists and held for the first time at 2 Fulton West
GRAND RAPIDS, MI, February 11, 2013 – This Saturday, February 16 from 6–11 PM, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) will celebrate the creative talents of over 50 West Michigan artists with its annual fundraising event Live Coverage. Guests can experience the thrill of great art being made right in front of them. This unforgettable evening combines live and silent auctions, music by DJ Todd Ernst, and an array of fine food from Amway Grand Plaza and a cash bar by Martha’s Vineyard.
Michele DeSelms from FOX 17 will emcee the event, that will be held for the first time in UICA’s new facility at 2 Fulton West. This event is a must for collectors, designers, and anyone with a passion for original artwork. All proceeds from Live Coverage will further the innovative artistic, educational, and youth programs of UICA – Michigan’s largest contemporary art center.
Tickets are: $65 for UICA Members (Cash Bar), $75 for Non-Members (Cash Bar). For an additional $35, VIP tickets are available that include valet parking at 8 Commerce, an exclusive special entrance, champagne, preferred seating at the Live Auction, $16 in drink tickets and 2 UICA film passes ($50 value). Tickets can be purchased online or by contacting Stef at 616 454 7000 x19 | stef@uica.org.
UICA thanks this year’s Presenting Sponsor, Wolverine Worldwide.
UICA also thanks:
Live Auction Sponsor – Steelcase Inc.
Event Sponsors – Law Weathers and Amway Grand Plaza
Auction Sponsors – Mika Meyers Beckett & Jones PLC, Kathryn Chaplow LLC, West Side Beer, Conduit Studio, LaFontsee Galleries, YoChef Catering, and Service Reproduction Co.
56 artists are scheduled to participate in the event list year, a complete list is below, including well-known Michigan artist Stephen Duren. This ‘must attend’ event is in its 12th year.
The event is the largest fundraiser for the year for UICA and proceeds support general operations and educational programs. This year a portion of the Live Auction will be dedicated to raising funds for honorariums for local, national and international exhibiting artists. Last year’s Live Auction alone brought in over $20,000 in revenue. With the Live Auction, 5 silent auction sections, ticket sales, and other contributions, UICA’s goal is to raise $75,000 this year.
Although the event will be held on multiple floors at our brand new facility, the format will be very similar to past years, with silent auction sections closing every half hour. The event will begin on Level 1, with the first auction closing at 7:30pm. Guests will then be invited to Level 4 for the next 2 silent auction closings at 8:00pm and 8:30pm. The Live Auction will occur on Level 4, and will begin with special announcements and acknowledgments by UICA’s Board President, Kathryn Chaplow. Jerry Austhof from Miedema Auctioneering will conduct the Live Auction, which will include over eight highly valued art pieces plus a dinner at the exclusive Meyer May House. The Meyer May House dinner was donated by Steelcase Inc. The event will conclude after 2 more silent auction sections close at 10:15pm and 10:45pm.
