MATSUTANI 1 (15min)
Contemporary artist Takesada Matsutani is active on the Paris art scene.
In this documentary Matsutani’s artistic perspective is captured from a unique Japanese perspective by RaRa Project’s award-winning video production team of Jiro Fujiwara and Emiko Okumura. Their cameras record him working at his studio in Paris, solo exhibitions in Tokyo and Takamatsu, and his work at the Otani Memorial Art Museum, Nishinomiya City, Japan. Interspersed throughout are comments by the artist himself exploring his creative impulse and the depths of the black world of silence Matsutani brings to life. (Special Award & intermedia-globe GOLD at WorldMediaFestival 2008, Selection film at 27th International Festival of Films on Art).
MATSUTANI 2 (11min)
This video is the second in a documentary series about the Paris-based contemporary artist Takesada Matsutani.
Featuring the artist’s performances at Art Forum JARFO in Kyoto and at a convention of the Japan Federation of Architects & Building Engineers Associations in Tokushima, Matsutani uses these occasions to speak about the creative process and the inherent tensions as he approaches each new work. You will find yourself caught up in his creative flow as he seeks to create art in which both observer and creator can freely participate.
