Curator to lead walking tour at historic Rains House
San Bernardino County Museum Curator of History Michele Nielsen will lead a special walking tour at the John Rains House in Rancho
Cucamonga on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The tour will focus on the fascinating history of the site, the Rains family, and the fired brick home. Discover some of the building’s special features and learn about how it was saved from destruction
by a dedicated group of students and adults who saw this historic treasure as an important part of our regional story. This program is offered at no charge.
“The Rains House is truly a gem of our county, a part of our region’s early history,” said Nielsen. “We will examine the building
materials and techniques used to construct this beautiful building, one of the oldest fired brick structures remaining in our county. We’ll also delve back in time to find out more about life in our region in the 1860s, when the Rains House was first built
and occupied.”
The John Rains House, a San Bernardino County Museum historic site, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is
located at 8810 Hemlock in Rancho Cucamonga. Parking is free. For more information, visit
