BERLIOZ Fantastic Symphony

The next concert of the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra’s 97th season is titled “The French Collection” and features one of the grandest, ‘over-the-top’ symphonies ever written. Steven Karidoyanes conducts the Phil in Hector Berlioz’s Fantastic Symphony, a monumental tour-de-force for orchestra that depicts a bizarre dream about love and obsession. Talented members of South Shore Conservatory’s Bay Youth Symphony (BaYS) join the philharmonic to create a super-sized orchestra, performing the evocative ballet music from the opera, Faust, composed by Charles Gounod. This decidedly all-French affair also includes the effervescent Festivals, one of the Three Nocturnes by Claude Debussy.
