Master Drawings of Baroque

In cooperation with the Salzburg Museum/Department of Baroque Art, which as the former Salzburger Barockmuseum/Rossacher Collection had exhibited the Rembrandt etchings in autumn 2011, drawings of Austrian and South German Baroque artists are to be presented together (e.g. Pietro de Pomis, Hans Adam Weissenkircher, Paul Troger, Franz Anton Maulbertsch, Martino Altomonte, Johann Georg Bergmüller, Franz Caspar Sambach, Kremser Schmidt).

Martin Johann Schmidt, Schindung des Hl. Bartholomäus, Feder in Bister über Steinkreidezeichnung, laviert

Many of the works represent sketches for paintings, altar constructions, ceiling and wall paintings (e.g. Fischer von Erlach, sketch for the Mariazell High Altar). Especially the Baroque hand drawings, with their often lively, spontaneous and seemingly modern strokes, strike us with their individuality. Some of the examples can be complemented by oil sketches.
