march happenings
opening:
2013 is off to a great start here at Traver Gallery and we have enjoyed seeing and hearing from many of you in recent months. We're looking forward to a year of extraordinary exhibitions, and to sharing those shows with you, our supporters and friends. This month Traver Gallery is pleased to present two solo exhibitions, on view March 7th through the 31st.
Amie McNeel's first solo show with the gallery, Float, points to the poetic relationship between natural phenomena and contemporary scientific life. Pairing familiar elements such as hand-tied knots and nuts and bolts with mysterious mirrored and luminous glass surfaces, McNeel's sculptures are themselves an "unspoken poem about earthly and celestial horizons beyond reach".
Concurrently, New Works a solo exhibition by Northwest artist Mark Bennion. Known for his studious Buddhism-based approach to painting, in this new exhibition Bennion explores modes of abstraction through collage, sculpture, and the continuation of his well known "Fresco" series. Throughout the exhibit a sense of calm and balance prevails; seemingly random marks, strong geometric figures and organic forms come together to create harmonious, poetic compositions in paper, plaster, and steel.
Please join us for a special opening reception with both artists this Thursday, March 7th, from 5-8pm.
news:
Gallery artist Rik Allen opens an exhibition of his signature glass sculpture exploring the frontier of space at the Museum of Northwest Art on March 23rd, with an artist talk the same day at 1pm. The exhibition, Seeker, runs through June 9th.
For those of you in the Northeast, an in-depth survey of the work of artist Richard Marquis is currently on view in an exhibition at the Corning Museum of Glass as part of thier series Masters of Studio Glass.
A bit farther afield, the work of Hiroshi Yamano and Steffan Dam is included in the exhibition Ocean: A Look at Marine Life Though Glass, opening March 23rd at Denmark's Glasmuseet Ebeltoft.
Our neighbor, the Seattle Art Museum unveils a permanent installation on the facade of the Museum by artist Doug Aitken on Sunday, March 24th. Mirror is "an urban earthwork that changes in real-time in response to the movements of life around it". Attend the free public unveiling on March 24th at 6:30pm (tickets are free and required), and join us at the gallery next door for a glass of wine during the festivities.
Looking toward next month, we are pleased to announce exhibitions by Preston Singletary and Alan Fulle, on view April 4th through 28th, with an opening reception on the 4th, from 5-8pm.
