Arthur Heming: Chronicler of the North
now on view

At the height of his career Arthur Henry Howard Heming (1870-1940) was among Canada’s best-known artists, gaining particular attention in the United States and Europe. Heming’s paintings, drawings, prints, and writings cemented Canada’s image as “The Great White North,” a wilderness paradise for outdoor adventure. As part of the exhibition, examples of Impressionist-influenced works by members (such as Lawren Harris ) of Canada’s influential painters’ ensemble known as the Group of Seven are shown in contrast to Heming’s narrative, action-packed images.

Free, but please reserve your spot 860-434-5542 x 111 or frontdesk@flogris.org

Remarks by Rob Hernandez, former National Geographic Society executive and tour leader for Journey to Cuba trip sponsored by the Museum. Rob will speak about the vibrancy of Cuba's arts and culture.

Over the past twenty years, Cuban born artist Carlos Estevez has explored the relationship between man and the universe in his artwork. This presentation focuses on his latest project, Memorabilia, which combines objects with memories and thoughts. These works include paintings on canvas, using shadows through the technique of fumage. He also uses found objects, which he collects through his travels; these objects emphasize our connection with the world around us. Ultimately, this semi-autobiographical project reveals the close bond between and artist and his work.

Light Reception.
