I have an exhibition opening called At Home with Morris at Penny Fielding Gallery & Interiors, Walthamstow on 4 April - 2 June 2013.
Opening reception at the shop/gallery is on 4 April 2013, 6.30 - 8.30pm.
The project is a series of intimate domestic studies about home decoration and personal taste. At a time when the predominant trend has been to decorate a home in a ‘neutral’ palette, these images focus on the homes of William Morris admirers who have chosen to decorate their environments with his designs. Few other designers inspire such dedication and passion and for the majority of the homes photographed, decorating with Morris designs is an extension of personal and political beliefs.
I was commissioned by The Lowry to produce 19 new artworks for the exhibition called Centre Stage: Portraits of a Lowry Audience. The show is a joint exhibition with myself and filmmaker Hilary Easter-Jones, which captures audience members who attend the theatre and gallery there, and explores their motivations for doing so through photography and video.
Kate Farrell, the exhibition curator says: "Centre Stage offers a unique opportunity for us to work with and get to know some of our incredible audience members, placing them at the heart of the artistic programme within a series of beautiful film and photographic portraits. I hope everyone who visits will find a story, memory or characteristic they can relate to, whilst appreciating the visual impact of these stunning works of art".
